Save money by keeping your good marriage in great shape.
As Bella DePaulo explains in her PsychologyToday.com posting Get-Married, Get Wealthy, happily married people tend to make, and also to save, more money. On top of the financial benefit, more happiness, longevity and physical health tend to accrue to folks who live in a good marriage. Divorce, by contrast, can put you on the fast track to financial and emotional hardship. So here's a quick do-it-yourself marriage scan.

First, how much fun are you having? Couples who play together, stay together. Couples who set aside at least some chunk of time each day to be alone together, even if it's a tired twenty minutes after the kids are in bed, refresh their connection with each shared smile and pleasant verbal interchange. Add to that a date night, plus some weekend fun without the kids, and you'll up the odds that your good marriage will stay in fine shape.
Be careful though about how you spend that time. If your free time at home goes to an affair with the TV or computer, turn them off and turn to each other. To feel like partners in living you need time face to face, not just side by side or worse, back to back.

Second, how appreciative are you? If you take each other's contributions for granted, the sun will not shine in your home as often as it could. Focus for a day on checking the weather in your home. How often do each of you give forth warmth, show fondness, say yes to each other, ask questions that convey interest, express compassion, hug and smile? When positive energies radiate from spouse to spouse, the whole family benefits. And sunshine is free.
Third, there's sex. The best things in life really are free. How often to you put on music, close the door, and have a totally fun time together in your bedroom? Good sex is not enough to make a good marriage, but if sexual sharing is rare to absent, your connection may become fragile.

In the early days of the women's liberation movement, a saying grew popular. "Sex is a positive way of spending time." Catch the word "spending" there? Sex costs just time, not money.

Fourth, what's new? Both familiarity and newness strengthen partnering connections. A new game, a walk in a different place, trying out a new way to exercise together, a new shared volunteer project...anything new enhances old connections.

Fifth and last but not least, how do you heal after upsetting moments? Healthy partners talk quietly, briefly, and openly to heal the breaches in their emotional connection. As I write on my posting on Mistakes are for Learning, they both apologize for their part in the glitch, and end up with their love renewed.

A lot of people want to know how Lauren Jones Footwear came about. It's actually an interesting story! While working in Los Angeles on a few projects in the Entertainment world (being a Barker's Beauty on The Price is Right, working on a DVD series called "Baywatch Beach Body Workout with Lauren Jones" and on the FOX reality hybrid show Anchorwoman) I had the unique good fortune of meeting Av Goodman, the President of shoe brand Martinez Valero at Katana, a sushi restaurant, on Sunset Boulevard. As a sushi connoisseur, I knew exactly what to order and when Av leaned over and asked what I recommended from the menu. I had the tastiest selections committed to memory so I spewed off the best of the best. We ended up asking the normal nice-to-meet-you questions like, "Where are you from and what do you do?". It turned out that we had a similar passion: shoes! I liked to wear them and he ran a company that was 100% devoted to them. At that moment, he said he would send me a pair and in exchange I would wear them on the red carpet for my FOX Anchorwoman premiere party. We stayed in communication for the next two years and Av later reached out to me to model for Martinez Valero after my role as "Cheyenne" in feature film "The Expendables". I took on the job with excitement, however, I had bigger plans in mind. I expressed to Av that I wanted my own shoe line. Afterall, I had a degree from Parsons School of Design. I knew I could design better than the next guy. At first, this seemed like a lofty aspiration but after many meetings and discussions, not to mention a ton of hard work and designing, what was first just an idea became four not so cute samples out of China. One thing led to another and our passion for our idea of Lauren Jones Footwear grew. Today, we are partners in Lauren Jones Footwear, a privately held company makes gorgeous shoes at attainable price points and which does business with fine retailers such as Nordstrom, Belk, Kleinfeld and more. We distribute Lauren Jones Shoes both nationally and internationally and we are growing every day! Make sure to check out our latest collection for Fall 2011. We have added fur and fringe boots which will be available for the first time through Boston Proper catalog. So if you ever have an idea, make sure you see it into fruition. Nothing is unobtainable in this world. If you can dream it, you can achieve it.

Below is a collage of old family photos that I assembled for a piece of artwork for my home. It was so much fun making this because my mom and I sat on the floor of her bedroom, pulling out old family photos, reminiscing, laughing, and over some memories, even crying. I learned that triplets run in the family! Check out the photo of my great grandmother, one of three, pictured in a rare photo for its time. I love how classically chic everyone dressed. Everyone appeared so happy, loved and poised. I can't wait to create a family of my own one day!

My Role as Cheyenne in "The Expendables"

Above is a video clip from my role as Cheyenne opposite Mickey Rourke in "The Expendables". Below are a few behind the scenes images prior to filming. We had a blast on set, laughing and enjoying the food from catering. Sly made fun of me for drinking a Monster drink... you know, the energy drinks that keep you up all night. I said it was low carb but he still shook his head disapprovingly and said he never ate or drank anything with sugar or carbs. I sort of felt guilty but I kept drinking it. After all, it was a closed set and we were filming over night, wrapping at 5 am. I needed the extra help.
     As seen in these photos below (that's me on the far right wearing white with a darker "do"), we are getting ready to film, however, we had not yet gone in to costume and makeup. We were all hanging on set, Sylvester Stallone, Mickey Rourke, Jason Statham and I, just going through rehearsal and practicing with our scripts. This was the first time I had ever met Mickey Rourke and Jason. I had previously met Sly both during casting for the film as well as years back when he inducted Hulk Hogan into the WWE Hall of Fame when I was still a WWE Smackdown Diva. Jason asked me where I lived and when I told him "Mississippi" he gasped: "WHY!?". I had to laugh because there are many reasons why and for those of you who are curious, so far, I happen to get more accomplished while living here. I am more focused. The whole "Hollywood going out scene" was nothing but trouble and I knew to steer clear. Plus, I have paid my dues. I lived in NYC 10 years and LA for 2. I needed a break but wanted to keep working, so I have (and I still work VERY diligently... have you seen my latest project, Lauren Jones Footwear? Check out the designs at http://www.nordstrom.com/!).
     While chatting, Jason told me the story of how he was discovered. He had been selling jewelry on the street, hustling, and someone took notice of his great voice and evil, "bad guy" accent. He was told he'd be great in film and was suggested a part. Bingo, we now know Jason Statham as a major movie star. Very cool.
     We practiced the scene many times until Sly felt we were prepared for filming later in the evening. Mickey and I road in to Tools' Tattoo parlor on a motorcycle and neither of us used a stunt double (however in the previous scene leading up to our entrance, I did ride in with a stunt double). I know it doesn't seem like we are going very fast, however, the bike was very heavy, shaky, and I was afraid I was going to get knocked into the door frame upon entry. I kept praying "don't let me get hurt and if so, let there be medical staff nearby". During the actual filming of the scene, during one of the many takes, Mickey placed the kickstand on my foot. I was wearing opened toe heels and it was overwhelmingly painful, however, I bit my tongue. I didn't want to ruin the scene with my complaining, so I said nothing.

I love French Chateau style; and it's even better mixed with a little touch of modern... it's oh-so-classy. Together, old and new create something awe inspiring, a juxtaposition, like a jumbo shrimp. You can't stop looking, admiring and feeling inspired. Design is everywhere, whether in shoes, in homes, in clothes, it surrounds us. If you are in a business where you have the luxury to create, make sure to stop and look around you. Sometimes the simplest splash of color, or hue can inspire the most magical things.

Halloween 2010 as Marilyn Monroe

What did everyone go as for Halloween this year? I decided to do something a little different, as opposed to just running into a Halloween store and buying a ready made outfit like a sailer or a school girl, etc... I decided to go as Marilyn Monroe based on the clothes that were hanging in my closet. Believe it or not, I had all of this already at my fingertips! The dress is from a little boutique in New York City that I happened to stumble upon while searching for Miss New York USA attire. I saw it and simply loved it because it was so incredibly different and knew it would come in handy either for a photoshoot or costume for WWE. At the time of purchase, I knew it was too revealing for Miss NY USA so I picked a different, more conservative and very classy choice. For WWE, it was perfect, since I was a Diva on Smackdown. The white mink and fox fur coat was given to me by my Aunt. She had worn it during her days of galas and upscale parties and had decided she didn't want it anymore, so she gave it me. What a nice gift!

The hair was pretty easy considering how long my hair is! And no, I don't have extensions, it's all mine! :) First I washed my hair and then blew it dry. Next I placed my hair in hot rollers. Then I took a few strands of hair and coiled them around my finger, securing them with bobby pins and hair spray. To finish the look, I added a 1980's gold clutch of my mothers, stilettos from Lauren Jones Footwear, and some really fun diamond jewelry like Marilyn would have worn. The look was finished in under a hour! So the next time you are scrambling trying to get a costume together for Halloween, first consider your very own closet!

The Master Cleanse | Detoxify and Lose Weight

This is what I am up to today... besides work of course: The Master Cleanse! Extreme, maybe. Good for you? YES! It helps the body detoxify and you subsequently lose weight. I do it mainly to detoxify but I am not going to lie, losing weight is an added bonus!

The Master Cleanse is so much fun and truly a simple program. I say that it's fun because you are taking control of your body and your life and that in itself is very satisfying. To get started on this easy cleanse, first, squeeze fresh lemon juice, from real organic lemons. Next, you will add grade B rich maple syrup and cayenne pepper into purified water. Then, simply stir or shake your potion and drink! For best results, drink a minimum of six to twelve glasses throughout the day whenever you begin to feel hungry. Now, if you want to take it to the next step, you can take a laxative, morning and evening; or instead of the morning laxative, you can do a salt water flush. However, I have not yet ventured this far. I stick with drinking the "lemonade", I cut out my eating for the full day, and that's as far as I go. But maybe soon I will try the whole program, we will see. Also, every day of The Master Cleanse that you overcome the psychological need to eat, you feel a growing sense of control that motivates you to complete the process. The Master Cleanse is by far my favorite of the Detox Diet Recipes.
